Can you guess why these Softeq interns are leaping with excitement?! Is it because Softeq was voted #4 overall in the“2011 Best IT Companies to Work for in Belarus” contest? Although our interns were very excited to hear the news of our award, they were equally excited to walk across the stage this month to receive their college diplomas. In recognition of their hard work and dedication, our ace human resources team organized a day of celebration which included riding in style to a photo shoot and ending the day with a relaxing evening of bowling.

Today, June 1st, Softeq celebrates International Children's Day by wishing all of our Softeq kids, along with all children around the world, good health, smiles and a fun summer! We also wish them each bright and secure futures.

In honor of this special holiday, our Softeq Minsk, Belarus office put together a short video of interviews with kids of Softeq employees to find out what their parents do at work. As expected, some of the answers were surprising! Although in Belarusian, the expressions of a child are universal! Click here to watch the video.

Disney Earns American Foundation for the Blind 2011 Access Award

The winners of the 2011 Access Awards were announced today by the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB). The AFB annually honors individuals, corporations and organizations that are eliminating or substantially reducing inequities faced by people who are blind or visually impaired.

We congratulate our client Walt Disney Parks and Resorts on being one of the four recipients of this year's American Foundation for the Blind Access Award. The AFB is honoring Walt Disney Parks and Resorts for the introduction of their new device at its U.S. theme parks to help individuals with hearing or vision impairments enjoy the full experience of Disney Parks.

Softeq has been proud to be the software and hardware development company over the past five years for this award winning assistive technology device. "Disney puts a lot of time and energy into making their parks truly accessible to everyone," stated Chris Howard, CEO of Softeq.

The other 2011 Access Award recipients are The CBS Television Network, Lexmark International, Inc. and Accessible Twitter. The awards will be presented on Friday, March 11, 2011 at the Josephine L. Taylor Leadership Institute at the downtown Seattle Renaissance Hotel.

The War of The Worlds: Minigame Adventure App Launched!

The original HG Wells story was first published as an episodic adventure for Pearsons magazine in 1897, so in homage we've created a 12-part episodic Minigame Adventure of The War of The Worlds. Each minigame is based on one of the scenes in Jeff Wayne's Musical Version, and features the music, sounds, and dialogue from the award-winning musical. There will be a minigame for each episode of the musical, 12 in all. Released in serialized fashion, just like the original story from H.G.Wells. Competitions were held, and employees and their families enjoyed a wide array of activities including paddle boating, hiking, and biking! Disney Unveils Enhanced Feature for Assistive Technology Device

This Friday, Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort will unveil the most recent updates to its handheld Assistive Technology Device (ATD) for guests with hearing and visual disabilities. The device will now offer detailed audio descriptions for outdoor areas in the theme parks.

Thanks to collaboration between Disney, HP and Softeq, that device exists today. It's the award-winning DURATEQ, a customized version of the HP iPAQ PDA.

"Disney had the original vision and it defined the requirements. Softeq handled product development and design, tooling, testing, software development, and overall project management. Holding it all together were the superb features and quality of the HP iPAQ PDA platform. The resulting DURATEQ handheld serves the needs of a wide range of accessibility." says Chris Howard, CEO Softeq Development Corporation.

Disney's Handheld Devices are available at Guest Relations at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort. It's free, weighs just 7.2 ounces and fits in the palm of your hand; once you have the device simply go and enjoy your day; the DURATEQ knows what to do. Utilizing Disney's patented location and synchronization technology, it receives data from infrared signals-invisible beams of light-from overhead transmitters located throughout the park, These signals automatically trigger event-synchronized audio and screen displays with no buttons to push except volume control. One guest commented after testing the audio service, Attraction Description, that the device provides something that people with visual disabilities almost never get in real life: "a full description of our surroundings."

The industry is noticing. Softeq Celebrates 100th Minsk Employee!

Softeq reached a significant milestone in our company’s history on April 19th when our offshore company, Softeq Development, FLLC, located in Minsk, Belarus hired their 100th employee, Dmitry Gorokh.

We have had a presence in Minsk, Belarus since 2005. Softeq Development, FLLC is wholly owned by Softeq Development Corporation. Our custom software development company has an experienced staff that specializes in custom, technical software development. Our teams have mastered all major programming languages and technologies: C, C++, C#, Java, .Net , as well as Windows, Unix/Linux, embedded, and database based technologies.

In celebration of this momentous occasion of the company, sweet cakes (photo on right) were provided so everyone could take part in congratulating Dmitry on his honorary title of “100th employee”!

We are excited to announce our game division, zGames, has released an Android version of their augmented reality application, zGhost!

zGhost is an augmented reality application that combines 3D graphics over live video that lets you see ghosts and take pictures of them using the live camera preview of your phone. The camera is actually sensitive enough to pick up the low-glow of ectoplasm radiated by ghosts. It works similarly to the nightvision setting of your video camera. See what's around you right now, that you can't see with your own eyes!
